Modern Portland Oregon Wedding at Jupiter NEXT | Mera + Jorden

The Jupiter NEXT Hotel is a Portland Oregon staple. The Doug Fir Lounge is the spot you want to take your out of town besties to have a real “Oregon bar” experience. With live music and a rustic log cabin meets MCM vibe, you can’t get more PNW than that. Jupiter dubs itself “Hip boutique lodging with a lounge scene” and I couldn’t agree more. Downstairs in the hotel is the restaurant “Hey Love” and has the same vibe with plants dripping off of every surface. They also provide catering if you decide to have your wedding or event there!

My sweet friends, Mera and Jorden, had the worst time finding a place to have their wedding considering the pandemic and so many venues closing their doors. This meant that they had to replan their wedding four times due to COVID. They wanted to have a chic urban wedding to reflect their style and thankfully the Jupiter Hotel had pivoted to start offering their venue for micro-weddings. Thankfully when Mera asked me about a venue I might know of, I had just finished doing a styled shoot at Jupiter Next and knew they were hosting elopements and micro-weddings and it was the perfect fit.

Mera and Jorden each got ready in their own gorgeous rooms – which I highly recommend. They are full of natural light and allow you to have the best view of Portland. The hotel lobby, event spaces, and upstairs lobby all are so beautiful, which made it the perfect place for hosting guests.

Mera wanted a very timeless feel to her overall look and paired it with a customized matching jean jacket with their wedding date. Jorden wore a maroon suit that paired well with the color of florals and decor. For bridal photos, we were able to get urban shots outside. My favorite photos were the ones in front of the hotel showcasing protest signs in their windows in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. It was especially touching considering all of the conversations I had with Mera and what her and her family live through on a daily basis. Such an important moment to document.

Thankfully the drizzle of rain stopped just in time for the ceremony and we got the most beautiful weather for the rest of the day. The reception was inside in the Arium ballroom, which complimented Mera and Jorden’s modern style in the best way. A lounge area, floor to ceiling windows and cement everywhere made for the perfect blank canvas for their day.

For the reception, handmade cookies with the couples hashtag as well as a polaroid camera version were given as favors to guests. Mera is also a professional photographer so the polaroid was a perfect nod to her passion.

The night included emotional toasts and dancing by the couple’s closest family and friends. Mera and Jorden’s son, Hendrix fell asleep in her arms while toasts were being made.

Finally, a small sparkler send-off ended the night nicely. Couples continued to dance and the couple had time to spend with guests that flew in from out of state. It was a wonderful way to celebrate amid a crazy wedding season.

Here are some recommendations to have the best wedding there:

  • If you have a LARGE reception, use either the Arium Ballroom which has fantastic light OR the Dream Tent next door.
  • If you’re having a micro-wedding or elopement, use the Secret Garden, an epic roof-top space.
  • Stay here (they have great lodging 😉 ) in the XL Corner Suite for amazing light for one partner and the XX room for the other partner.
  • Parking is on the street using the Parking Kitty App.

If your guests are flying in:
